Phone users can choose from thousands of applications (or apps) designed to enhance productivity, simplify social networking or provide other useful benefits. There are also tons of games for the iPhone, many of which offer rich graphics and action-packed play that rival high-end game consoles. With new apps being introduced daily, it's not surprising that a few of them would cause iPhone and iPod Touch users to scratch their heads, wondering how they came to be developed and, most of all, why. In this article, we'll explore a few examples of iPhone apps that appear to reflect the developer's desire to march to a different drummer. Some appear to be solutions looking for a problem. For example, you may not realize that having an assortment of sound effects at your fingertips could somehow make your life more enjoyable.

A solar geoengineering proposal to reduce global warming’s effects would target an upper layer of the atmosphere. For decades, climate scientist David Keith of Harvard University has been trying to get people to take his research seriously. He's a pioneer in the field of geoengineering, which aims to combat climate change through a range of technological fixes. Over the years, ideas have included sprinkling iron in the ocean to stimulate plankton to suck up more carbon from the atmosphere or capturing carbon straight out of the air. Keith founded a company that develops technology to remove carbon from the air, but his specialty is solar geoengineering, which involves reflecting sunlight away from Earth to reduce the amount of heat that gets trapped in the atmosphere by greenhouse gases. The strategy hasn't been proven, but modeling suggests it will work.

The Lamborghini Urus is an upcoming super-luxury sport utility vehicle. The name looks kind of awkward, especially for those who lack an Italian accent, but the Urus follows Lamborghini's typically aggressive naming convention: Like most Lamborghini vehicles, it's an homage to a type of bull, specifically, a breed from Spain. And even though there was a big announcement in January of 2014 about the Urus' official production schedule, Lamborghini first revealed the Urus (in concept form) at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show -- nearly two years earlier. Brand representatives said then they expected the Urus to sell at a rate of about 3,000 vehicles per year, although they hadn't yet made the definite decision to produce it. Lamborghini chose to reveal the Urus in China because, at the time, economists and auto industry experts predicted that by as early as 2015, demand for luxury sport utility vehicles in the Chinese market would grow by nearly 50 percent.

Then, out of the corner of your eye, you see a large shadow slide its way through the depths. The light down here is tricky, but there's definitely something large circling you and the other divers. You catch sight of it again, but it has multiplied into two shapes, now three.
