Dubbed the Patterson-Gimlin film, it’s now been studied by generations of scientists, special effects artists and costume designers. To this day, no one has been able to say for sure whether the film was genuine or an elaborate hoax. Patterson died of cancer in 1972, while Gimlin swears to this day that if what he saw that day was a hoax, it wasn’t one that he was in on. Regardless of whether Bigfoot is a scientific reality or the stuff of legends, it’s worth noting that even the FBI has an extensive file on the creature - a file that dates back to 1976. It all began when Peter Byrne, director of Oregon’s Bigfoot Information Center and Exhibition, sent the FBI “about 15 hairs attached to a tiny piece of skin.” Byrne remarked that his organization had been unable to identify them, hence the need for an FBI assist. The letter made its way to Jay Cochran, Jr., assistant director of the FBI’s scientific and technical services division.
Unfortunately, a gas mask won't do you much good in the event of a large-scale bioterrorist attack. The attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, alerted the world to the realities of new terrorist threats. Startling images of the Twin Towers falling are indelible. May have overshadowed the events that occurred just a week later. From a public mailbox in New Jersey, letters that contained anthrax spores were mailed to two U.S. The attack killed five people. Bioterrorism -- the purposeful release of bacteria, viruses or germs to cause injury, illness or death -- became a reality in the United States. The three ways a terrorist can release biological agents is through air, water or food. These agents are typically very difficult to detect and because the illnesses they cause are usually delayed, it makes bioterrorism a hard crime to investigate. In fact, the anthrax case of 2001 remains unsolved. Human bodies infected with plague were also used as ammunition in central Europe during the 14th and 15th centuries.
An electronic cigarette doesn't rely on this process of combustion. Instead, it heats a nicotine liquid and converts the liquid to a vapor, or mist, that the user inhales. Depending on the e-cigarette, the user may simply inhale from the cartridge to begin the vaporization process, though some devices have a manual switch that activates the vaporizer inside. The charged battery is connected to the vaporization chamber, a hollow tube that contains electronic controls and an atomizer -- the component that creates the vapor. Before the user activates the device, he or she attaches a cartridge containing nicotine liquid to the vaporization chamber. The tip of the cartridge serves as the e-cigarette's mouthpiece. E-cigarette users inhale the way they would with a regular cigarette. This inhalation activates the atomizer to heat the liquid in the cartridge and convert the liquid to a vapor. Inhaling this vapor through the mouthpiece delivers nicotine to the lungs, and the user exhales vapor that looks much like a cloud of cigarette smoke.
It goes beyond plot recaps and PR-ready sound bites to illustrate why some art works and other art fails. But to achieve an expanded appreciation of movies requires that we actually read movie reviews, which fewer of us are willing to do. Informal poll: How often do you visit Rotten Tomatoes to read movie reviews? And how often do you go there just to see the aggregate "Fresh" or "Rotten" score? To reduce film criticism to a binary score, however, risks reducing filmmaking to a purely consumer exchange. Do I want to pay money for this movie: Yes or no? And if that's our only criteria, we're not only missing out on this deeper appreciation of movies, says film criticism professor and author Walter Metz; we might be making the world a dumber place. Metz, who chairs the Department of Cinema and Photography at the University of Southern Illinois and is co-editor of the Film Criticism Journal.
You'll find the costs of these sets below the line. Looking to buy some fancy period costumes for a Jane Austen film or train a Golden Retriever to act in a lighthearted buddy comedy? Include these expenses below the line, or risk facing your accountant's wrath. Looking to learn more about below the line expenses? Read on for more information about Hollywood budgeting basics. Perhaps the easiest way to define below-the-line expenses is to focus on what's not included in the category. Most expenses related to creative talent, such as actor salaries and the cost of directors and producers, fall firmly above the line. Any fees associated with screenwriting or securing the rights to a screenplay are also above the line. Once these costs are out of the way, virtually every other dollar spent making a movie is accounted for below the line. So what kind of spending is included in below the line expenses? Start with salaries. Other than the millions paid to the cast, nearly every salary in the budget falls below the line.
