You have to understand what type of an article you are going to work with, so you can come up with a right tone and format of your future essay. Remember that when you analyze your paper, your main task is to make sure that your audience understands the major points without much difficulty. You have to show your critical thinking skills and make judgments about the subject as you analyze an article, so you can come up with clear opinion and conclusions. When you read an article or a news report, find and identify author’s main points and the thesis. Analyze the structure of the article step-by-step as you read. Always give yourself enough time to read through the article. If writing is “a must” for you as you read, you can start with an outline draft first where you mention the most important points. In most cases, look for a purpose of author’s written work. Inform the reader: look if the article has a clear structure and whether it provides sufficient evidence supported by facts and additional research.
Economists Philip Held and Frank McCormick co-authored an eye-opening new report in the American Journal of Transplantation that presents a detailed cost-benefit analysis of paying donors for their kidneys. The report concluded that if the U.S. 45,000 per kidney - yup, $45,000 to each living donor - it would save American taxpayers $12 billion a year. Wait a minute. How does paying money to kidney donors save taxpayer dollars? Held, who is a consulting professor in the Department of Nephrology at Stanford University. That means taxpayers are currently paying for years of dialysis treatments - which add up to $1.4 million per patient over a lifetime - as patients waste away on the waiting list. Actual kidney transplants are comparatively cheap, around $145,000 per operation, according to the report. Held and McCormick predict that if you began offering people $45,000 for a healthy kidney, the resulting influx of available organs would erase the waiting list in five years.
Once it knows the "why," it can figure out the "how" by outlining the requirements to get there, including where to place financial resources, how to forecast human resource needs, and where to place investments, otherwise known as financial planning. Financial planning is all about allocating finite resources -- such as money, employees and equipment -- over time, to reach the broad goals set out in strategic planning. To do so involves measuring current performance against past data and trends for the future. Read on to find out more about how a strategic plan comes together. What is financial planning? What is strategic planning? The strategic plan is comprised of two very different parts. First is the mission statement. For example, a mission statement for a local charity aimed at ending homelessness could be, "To greatly reduce the number of women and children living on the streets in our community each year." The mission statement is, by nature, broad. SMART is an acronym for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. In other words, the mission statement may have a very lofty scope, but if the SMART system is employed, results are possible or even probable. The mission statement example above is specific in that it targets the problem of homeless women and children. It is measurable because the number of homeless women and children can be quantified. It is achievable because it is a broad goal -- the aim is to "greatly reduce" the problem. It is relevant because homelessness is a major social issue. Strategic Planning: What, How, and When?
On the other hand, the ease with which you can view RSS headlines may convince you that you can subscribe to even more sites. You may end up spending just as much time reading feeds as you used to on regular Web sites. Reading feeds requires a few simple things, many of which you already have. You'll need a computer -- or compatible electronic device -- and an Internet connection. After that, you need something that can read, or aggregate, RSS files. Aggregators collect. Interpret RSS feeds in one location. That way, you can see the latest headlines from HowStuffWorks, CNN, the BBC and Reuters, all in one place. Or do you just want the headlines? Do you want everything organized by date, with the feeds mixed by most recent, or would you prefer to keep each site separate? These are options that your aggregator will give you help you enjoy your reading. Aggregators take many forms.|Russian President Vladimir Putin has recognized two separatist territories in eastern Ukraine as independent states, ordering the deployment of Russian troops there following a major address Monday night. For almost eight years, the breakaway regions have been the site of a low-intensity war between Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian forces, which has left more than 14,000 people dead. But Putin's decision to send forces into the area has raised fears about a broader war in Ukraine. Here's a look at how the conflict started. What's the recent history in Donbas? War broke out in 2014 after Russian-backed rebels seized government buildings in towns and cities across eastern Ukraine. Intense fighting left portions of the Donbas region's eastern Luhansk. Donetsk oblasts in the hands of Russian-backed separatists. Russia also annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 in a move that sparked global condemnation. The separatist-controlled areas in Donbas became known as the Luhansk and the Donetsk People's Republics. The Ukrainian government in Kyiv asserts the two regions are in effect Russian-occupied.
