Havas London's Andrew Robinson in switch to Newgate

Former Havas board director and corporate chief Andrew Robinson has joined Newgate Communications to boost the agency's international credentials.

Objective: Robinson aims to make Newgate an international force
Robinson had been at Havas London (which recently rebranded from Euro RSCG) for the past six years, managing corporate clients in the UK and internationally.

It is thought Robinson has been tasked with helping the agency expand its international footprint. Newgate currently has wholly owned offices in London, Edinburgh, Brussels and Frankfurt.

Robinson commented: ‘My time at Havas was very rewarding, but Newgate is my big opportunity to be at the start of building a powerful force in international comms.’

By joining Newgate, Robinson joins a growing band of former senior Citigate Dewe Rogerson executives at the agency, launched by Citigate founder David Wright and headed by former Citigate CEO Jonathan Clare.

Robinson was at Citigate for five years from 1999 and has also worked at College Hill and Gavin Anderson. Already at Newgate are former Citigate corporate MD Deborah Saw and public policy chief Simon Nayyar.

Clare added: ‘Andrew’s insight as a senior practitioner and his cross-border client experience at Havas will be of immense value to both Newgate and our clients as we continue to expand our international network and offering.’

Havas UK MD Steve Marinker told PRWeek he was in the process of assessing the agency’s structure and that plans for its corporate division were yet to be finalised following Robinson’s departure. However, he added that he was looking to more closely integrate consumer and corporate work at the agency.

Newgate is owned by Porta Communications, the marcoms vehicle established by Wright in 2010. Last month, the AIM-listed group announced it had grown quickly to achieve revenues of £1.69m in the first half of 2012

Newgate Threadneedle handles Rangers Football Club IPO

Rangers Football Club's intention to float on the London Stock Exchange is being handled by Newgate Threadneedle.

Rangers FC: IPO plan announced this morning
The Scottish football club has announced this morning that it intends to seek admission to the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange.

Newgate is handling the IPO and all ongoing financial PR in a retained brief. The agency was appointed two months ago following a competitive pitch process and has been working behind the scenes to prepare for today's announcement.

Newgate MD Graham Herring is leading the account. He explained that the agency was already making plans about next year’s activities.

He said: ‘We’re handling the IPO process and there are also ongoing activities. It’s a very good opportunity.’

Herring will lead a four-strong team including client adviser John Coles.

The plan is for the club to raise up to £20m through an institutional investor placing and limited public offering.

The club explained that the funds raised would be used for ‘strengthening the player squad, improving and developing the club's properties and facilities, as well as providing additional working capital’.

It is anticipated that admission will become effective before the end of the year.

Commenting on the announcement Charles Green, chief executive of Rangers, said: ‘Rangers is debt-free and a huge club with enormous support and a 140-year track record of success on the domestic and international arenas. Our aim is to return the club to its glory days while ensuring it is run efficiently and profitably.’

The appointment will not affect Rangers’ existing relationship with Media House International, which continues to handle a media relations brief following its appointment last July.
