Biden arrives in Ukraine to show U.S. support as crisis with Russia continues

Kids can dream up some pretty awesome jobs, but can they keep the dream alive when they grow up? If you've ever asked a 5-year-old what she wants to be when she grows up, you'll probably recognize a theme. Astronaut, dancer, poet, princess, unicorn trainer - whatever the answer, it usually sounds like a lot of fun. Fifteen or 20 years later, that sense of fun will likely be trumped by a sense of financial responsibility. It's almost a rite of passage to give up the idea that a grown-up job can be fun. But fun and money aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. To be sure, even in the entertainment industry, Fallon is an anomaly. The jobs in which workers claim to be happiest are far less glamorous, but most pay a decent wage. There are also plenty of jobs that pay next to nothing and are a real drag. And even jobs that once seemed like a lot of fun, once you're in them long enough, can start to feel like work.|Invading your employee's space to berate him is just not good boss etiquette. Look, I get it. Etiquette in the workplace is laid back in the 21st century. Americans aren't exactly known for their decorum (they leave that to the English and French). And things like casual business attire, open office plans, easy access to social media and Whiskey Fridays don't exactly encourage professionalism. I've experienced this firsthand. I had a boss who would go to lunch with our office every week at the nearby Mexican restaurant. He'd drink one too many margaritas. Pry us for the juicy details of our lives. Then he'd casually sneak to the bathroom or outside to make a phone call when the bill arrived. Needless to say, I didn't stay at the job too long. Here are 10 etiquette rules your staff wishes you'd follow. Don't leave your staff wondering who's the new guy taking up residence at a desk. Starting a new job is like the first day at school.
That's pretty impressive when you consider that many viruses are incredibly simple. Viruses: A virus is a small piece of software that piggybacks on real programs. For example, a virus might attach itself to a program such as a spreadsheet program. Each time the spreadsheet program runs, the virus runs, too, and it has the chance to reproduce (by attaching to other programs) or wreak havoc. E-mail viruses: An e-mail virus travels as an attachment to e-mail messages, and usually replicates itself by automatically mailing itself to dozens of people in the victim's e-mail address book. Trojan horses: A Trojan horse is simply a computer program. The program claims to do one thing (it may claim to be a game) but instead does damage when you run it (it may erase your hard disk). Trojan horses have no way to replicate automatically. Worms: A worm is a small piece of software that uses computer networks and security holes to replicate itself.
The construction and early operations of these two systems actually predated the formation of NORAD by several months. It stretched across Alaska, northern Canada and Greenland several hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle. Completed in 1958, the DEW line, like the Pinetree Line and MCL, was designed to detect Russian jet bombers. The Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) was NORAD's answer to ICBMs. The BMEWS radar operated at such long range that its mission was expanded to include monitoring of orbital satellites. All three BMEWS stations are still in operation (following upgrades in recent decades), though the Alaskan station was converted into a PAVE PAWS installation. Interpreting and combining the information from all these radar systems requires the use of sophisticated computer systems (at any given moment, been repeatedly upgraded over the decades). Each radar station is connected to NORAD command and control by redundant communications systems, using hardwired connections and satellites as well as microwave communications. Today, NORAD is able to track virtually every inch of North American air space and can detect missile launches almost anywhere in the world, using satellites to spot heat signatures and exhaust plumes.|US Charge d'Affaires in Ukraine Kristina Kvien and other US diplomats are moving from Kiev to Lvov, Ukraine’s European Pravda online newspaper said on Sunday citing sources in the US diplomatic service. A Department of State official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was quoted as saying that the embassy’s key staff, heads of departments and so on, will work in Lvov. According to the official, Charge d’Affaires Kristina Kvein will also move to Lvov. It was an urgent decision to move to Lvov that was taken due to security considerations. Only technical personnel will stay in Kiev. The US Department of State earlier ordered most of its diplomats to leave Ukraine amid the threats of alleged Russia’s aggression. According to Ukrainian Pravda, US diplomats, who occupy non-critical positions, have already left Ukraine. Canada also suspended the operation of its embassy in Ukraine amid the growing tensions and organized its temporary mission in Lvov. The West and Kiev have recently been echoing allegations about Russia’s potential invasion of Ukraine. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov castigated these claims as "empty and unfounded", serving as a ploy to escalate tensions, pointing out that Russia did not pose any threat whatsoever to anyone. However, Peskov did not rule out the possibility of provocations aimed at justifying such claims and warned that attempts to use military force to resolve the crisis in southeastern Ukraine would have serious consequences.
Insurers are constantly working to thwart fraud through a wide variety of means -- including the 10 listed here -- and adjustors are quite adept at spotting suspicious claims. Submit a fraudulent one, and it may mean a hefty fine or the slammer for you. Submitted a lot of claims during your lifetime, or claimed a lot of losses? Insurers also try to discern any patterns in your past claims regarding their frequency and type. You may not realize it, but insurance companies keep in-depth records on claims and do all sorts of analyses to interpret the data they contain -- everything from figuring out who is most likely to file a claim to when and where. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) -- did you even know there was one? 23 "suspicious loss indicators." These are items within a claim or its circumstances that signal the claim may be fake. In the movies, you'll often see someone faking whiplash after a car accident.
Potential applications of such kind of trajectory analysis tool could be intelligent review systems that would enhance the training activities, but also richer broadcasting contents that would increase the engagement of spectators. The drawback of these approaches is that they require the careful and time-consuming installation of the sensor devices on the athlete and the acquisition of a precise ground model. Furthermore, such an approach could be not always achievable during competitions. Computer vision techniques applied on videos capturing the athlete’s performance is a valid option to obtain trajectories without the need of sensor networks nor ground surface models. The benefit of a video-based approach is even more evident considering the usual practice of video reviewing during training or the amount of video material produced by the broadcasting of competitions. However, to the best of our knowledge, no study is currently present to reconstruct the trajectory of skiing athletes in videos. In this short paper, we present a prototype to achieve the reconstruction of the trajectory of skiers in videos acquired from uncalibrated and unconstrained cameras.
