What is unique about Ritchie and Bates' research is that they were able to isolate two seemingly secondary factors - reading level and math performance at 7 years old - and show how these numbers could predict adult success, independent of every other variable. Over the last few years, physical computing infrastructure, data gathering, and algorithms to extract information from images and videos have had significant and impressive advances. The growth has been especially outstanding in image captioning and video captioning. However, despite significant encouraging progress, most of the advancements in video captioning still take place in short videos. In this research, we caption videos only by using the keyframes, which are a small subset of the total video frames, to caption long videos. We apply this method to caption videos for real-world purposes. In Section 3, we analyze the challenges of extracting information from images and videos. In Section 4 we explain the process of generating descriptions by keyframes in long videos.
It is a naturally cross-modal task with video and audio (i.e., of visual and auditory modalities) as input. In this paper, we consider multi-modal fusion in a generation task, i.e., audio-driven talking-face video generation. For this task, a direct way is to treat multi-modal input as different features. To align these features, we can rearrange the audio features as additional channels of image frames and concatenate them with the image features. However, this method maps the audio feature elements to fixed locations, and as we will later show in our experiments presented in Section VI-D, it only works under special conditions where all the frames are aligned (i.e., each frame containing a frontal face at a fixed position), which are difficult to meet in practice. Facial landmarks are highly correlated to expression but also sensitive to head pose, view angle and scale. Therefore, it is necessary to align input photo/frames with a standard face, which has challenges dealing with the following: (1) facial image fusion with background, (2) head motion and (3) extreme head pose.
The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory is a very high energy gamma-ray detector located in Mexico. In late 2018, the HAWC collaboration completed a major upgrade consisting of the addition of a sparse outrigger array of 345 small water Cherenkov detectors (WCDs) surrounding the 300 WCDs of the main array and extending the instrumented area by a factor of 4. It provides an improved reconstruction of the showers whose core and footprint are not well contained in the array and increases the effective area in the range of a few TeV to beyond 100 TeV. This improvement in sensitivity will help to have a better understanding of the Galactic sources that accelerate particles up to the knee of the cosmic ray spectrum. In this contribution, we will show the current status, the performance, and the first results from the HAWC outrigger array. The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) is a very-high-energy gamma-ray observatory located at 4100 m altitude on the volcano Sierra Negra in the state of Puebla in central Mexico.
