ESP is thought to be a special sense beyond the physical world. So if this man has "the gift," he should be able to tell what the pattern is on that ESP test card on his forehead. Most likely, you've never been abducted by aliens, and you probably don't know anybody who's had a brush with Bigfoot. But undoubtedly, you or somebody close to you has had the apparently paranormal experience of "seeing" the future or distant events. Most of us have dreamed something that eventually came true, had a correct hunch about an event miles away or predicted an out-of-the-blue phone call from an old friend. The experience is incredibly strange -- positively spooky -- but it happens all the time. So what's going on here? Depends on who you ask. A sizable chunk of the world's population attributes these strange events to extrasensory perception (ESP), a special sense beyond vision, hearing, smell, touch and taste. Unlike ordinary senses, ESP has virtually unlimited range, and it's experienced mainly as thoughts rather than bodily sensations.
You can use either your finger or a stylus, depending on your preference, and Notes Plus will convert your writing into the font of your choice. You also have, among other things, the ability to erase text, rearrange it or italicize certain lines. Then, when your notes are all in order, you can e-mail them to the world. In an article for iMedical Apps, Dr. David Ahn reviewed seven different styluses. Check out his article to see which stylus might be right for you. The iXpenseIt app allows you to track expenses by date, transaction type, amount and more. Few of us truly like figuring out our expenses and planning a budget. But with the help of your iPad, such chores can be a lot less painful. Consider an app like iXpenseIt ($4.99 for full version, free for iXpenseIt Lite), where you can track your spending according to type or by date. XpenseIt is particularly useful if you accrue a lot of expenses for work: The app allows you to record mileage and also has a picture-taking feature to compile receipts.|Jamie Hyneman. Adam Savage. See more TV show pictures. Did you know that if you dropped a penny from the Empire State Building, it would penetrate someone's skull? Or that a daddy long legs spider is the most venomous arachnid, but its fangs aren't large enough to pierce human skin? Or that if you swallowed Pop Rocks candy with soda, your stomach would explode? While it's impossible to find out the origins of these and other urban myths, you can't argue that they don't get around. We've all heard them, from lightning striking a tongue piercing to cockroaches surviving a nuclear holocaust. And you can always bet that the person telling you heard it from a friend or relative of the actual source. If only someone could put some of these stories to the test and get to the truth of the matter. Enter "MythBusters." Every Wednesday night on Discovery Channel, hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman test the limits of human ingenuity and sometimes even their own bodies to get to the bottom of some of the most well-known urban myths.
First, gravity is a force that causes objects to attract one another. The simplest way to understand gravity is through Isaac Newton's law of universal gravitation. This law states that every particle in the universe attracts every other particle. The more massive an object is, the more strongly it attracts other objects. The closer objects are, the more strongly they attract each other. An enormous object, like the Earth, easily attracts objects that are close to it, like apples hanging from trees. Scientists haven't decided exactly what causes this attraction, but they believe it exists everywhere in the universe. Second, air is a fluid that behaves essentially the same way liquids do. Like liquids, air is made of microscopic particles that move in relation to one another. Air also moves like water does -- in fact, some aerodynamic tests take place underwater instead of in the air. The particles in gasses, like the ones that make up air, are simply farther apart and move faster than the particles in liquids.
You scan the area as the dust settles; it reveals nothing more than small fires where each of the armored vehicles had been just a moment ago. You exchange horrified looks with the remaining members of your platoon. It becomes excruciatingly clear to all of you that it's time to run. As you take a step or two, a brilliant light fills your sight. Eighteen miles away, the effectiveness of the attack is confirmed. Welcome to the United States Army's world of future combat. At the center of this vision for the immediate future is what took out you. Your caravan -- the non-line-of-sight cannon (NLOS-C). Capable of rapidly firing a number of different rounds -- from what appears to be out of nowhere -- the NLOS-C can accurately put the kibosh on enemy movement quickly, effectively and with decidedly less collateral damage. Read about this essential leap forward in American military firepower on the next page.
