The macroeconomic panel of New Ukraine Conference 2017 featured a fruitful debate on the most urgent issues of the reforms Agenda in Ukraine with Dmytro Shymkiv, Deputy Chief of the Presidential Administration, Oleh Ustenko, CEO of Bleyzer Foundation in Ukraine, David Snelbecker CEO of the International Development Group, Francis Malige, Managing Director of the Eastern Europe and the Caucasus at the EBRD, Ihor Petrashko, Deputy CEO at Ukrlandfarming. Panel’s moderator was, as usual Alex Bart of Empire State Capital Partners. At one panel, Empire State Capital Partners jointly with the conference partner, Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC) presented an initiative to set up Business Incubator Group Ukraine (BIG.U), a regional office for the support of small and medium enterprises and the development of entrepreneurship in Ukraine. The initiative got a warm welcome from the attendees. By the time the New Ukraine Conference 2017 finished, a memorandum was signed on the establishment of BIG.U. The Business Incubator Group Ukraine initiative aims at making SMEs into a driving force behind Ukraine’s economy and delivering a quality leap into innovative sectors.

You walk casually, swinging the laptop back and forth between your arms, which is easy, since it weighs well under one pound (0.45 kg) and isn't much thicker than a checkbook. Although it has no carrying case, you hardly blink after dropping it onto the concrete sidewalk. Instead you pick it up, dust it off, and continue on your way. When you arrive at your desk, you toss the laptop down on the table and open it up. The screen immediately unfolds, spreading out into an enormous display! While this scenario sounds very futuristic, it actually isn't that far from reality, thanks in part to a concept design called a Fabric PC (personal computer), produced by Fujistu, Inc. Amazingly, a Fabric PC won't be encased within a tough metal shell like the PCs that have been around up to this point.
In addition, Russian annexation of some or all of Ukraine would increase Russian manpower, industrial capacity, and natural resources to a level that could make it a global threat. The United States and Europe cannot make this mistake again. The rest of this brief is divided into three main sections. First, it examines Russian political objectives. Second, the brief analyzes Russian military options. Third, it explores options available to the United States and its allies and partners. The Kremlin wants what it says: an end to NATO expansion, a rollback of previous expansion, a removal of American nuclear weapons from Europe, and a Russian sphere of influence. However, Putin may accept less. The Kremlin’s primary goal is a guarantee that Belarus, Ukraine, and Georgia will never belong to a military or economic bloc other than the ones Moscow controls and that Russia will be the ultimate arbitrator of the foreign and security policy of all three states. In essence, this conflict is about whether 30 years after the demise of the Soviet Union, its former ethnic republics can live as independent, sovereign states or if they still must acknowledge Moscow as their de facto sovereign.
Like backscatter X-ray machines, millimeter wave scanners produce detailed full-body images of passengers, but they do it with ultrahigh-frequency millimeter wave radiation rather than X-rays. If you went on name alone, you might think "advanced imaging technology machines" could help doctors hunt for tumors or other medical conditions. In reality, the label -- euphemism, if you're cynical -- adopted by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) describes the whole-body scanners found at airports that detect weapons, explosives or other threats being carried on passengers. According to the TSA's Web site, the agency had installed 800 advanced imaging technology machines at 200 U.S. November 2012. The machines come in two flavors, based on the type of electromagnetic radiation they use to make a scan. Backscatter machines -- about 30 percent of the installations -- send low-energy X-rays to bounce off a passenger's body. Millimeter wave (mmw) scanners emit energy more akin to microwaves. Both see through clothing to produce a 3-D image of the person standing in the machine.|Russian warships joined the conflict in Syria with a volley of cruise missile attacks on Islamic State as Syrian government troops launched a major ground offensive supported by Moscow air strikes. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told Vladimir Putin in televised remarks that four ships based 900 miles away in the Caspian Sea had launched 26 'Sizzler' missiles - and claimed they would strike 11 ISIS targets. Video released by the Russian Defence Ministry shows the warships launching the missiles which Shoigu insisted destroyed all the targets and did not hit any civilian areas. Moscow's defence ministry said the attacks were launched from warships Dagestan, Uglich, Grad Sviyazhsk and Veliky Ustyug. The cruise missiles, each costing hundreds of thousands of pounds, 'engaged all the assigned targets successfully and with high accuracy' said one Russian media report, giving no further details. The missiles fly at 550mph and have a range of more than 1,500 miles. The attacks came as Syrian government troops launched a ground offensive Wednesday in the country's central region under cover of Russian airstrikes, a Damascus official said.
Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union; now, it’s a different country. He is concerned that NATO will move in. It might sound paranoid to us, but it’s a security issue for him. Our government recognizes that but, at the same time, we can’t recognize a country that feels that it can control the destiny of another country, even if it’s a neighbor. So the Ukrainians, the U.S. NATO countries can’t accept that the Russians have the sphere of influence in Ukraine, no matter what the Russians do. The Ukrainians and the Ukrainian government are genuinely concerned about Russia undermining Ukraine’s economy and Ukrainian politics. They don’t want to be controlled by another country, and they feel they need some protection. That’s the reason they’re interested in NATO. The U.S. and other NATO countries may not need to have Ukraine in NATO, but if Ukraine wants to be a NATO member, everyone believes it has that right to join in. However, I don’t think this membership will come about very soon, no matter what we say, because that really would be a tipping stone.
