If you were shopping for a Mac, on the other hand, it would be impossible to spend less than $1,000. Are they really more expensive than PCs? As it turns out, there isn't much of a price difference between comparable Macs and PCs. One company -- Tom's Hardware -- wanted to see if there was really a price difference. So if Macs aren't more expensive than their PC counterparts, why can't you go out today and buy a Mac for a few hundred dollars? A lot of the price difference comes down to options and perceptions. A big difference between Apple and most PC makers is that Apple carries a relatively limited product line. At any given point, Apple offers only around five computer models. If you walked into a store that sells PCs, on the other hand, you'd have a much wider selection. And Apple's cheapest computer is still several hundred dollars more than the least expensive PC you can find.
The NLOS cannon: The reason your day's about to take a turn for the worst. See more images of the Army. It's 2012, and you find yourself in the precarious position of being a soldier in a military that's embattled against the United States. The caravan of armored vehicles you're a part of comes to a halt. An unmanned aerial drone has just appeared over the horizon, flying toward the caravan. You and several members of your platoon are ordered out of your vehicle to destroy the reconnaissance drone. You look upward to the curious sight of several small parachutes suspending what looks like canisters, drifting toward the caravan. Strangely, despite a crosswind that should be carrying the canisters away, you notice that each one is headed directly for a vehicle. You hear someone shout "cluster bomb!" in your native language, followed by a body-rattling, quick succession of explosions. Your vision blurs, you hear only a single high-frequency note.
Fujitsu's Fabric PC concept. See more computer pictures. Imagine walking to school or work with a brand-new type of laptop computer in hand. You walk casually, swinging the laptop back and forth between your arms, which is easy, since it weighs well under one pound (0.45 kg) and isn't much thicker than a checkbook. Although it has no carrying case, you hardly blink after dropping it onto the concrete sidewalk. Instead you pick it up, dust it off, and continue on your way. When you arrive at your desk, you toss the laptop down on the table and open it up. The screen immediately unfolds, spreading out into an enormous display! While this scenario sounds very futuristic, it actually isn't that far from reality, thanks in part to a concept design called a Fabric PC (personal computer), produced by Fujistu, Inc. Amazingly, a Fabric PC won't be encased within a tough metal shell like the PCs that have been around up to this point.
Deft winemakers have also developed a sophisticated understanding of the changing tastes of the international wine-drinking community. When you add to that the potential revenue presented by emerging markets like China, wine and winemaking becomes art, craft, science and commerce all matured and bottled into one tantalizingly delicious package. Let's take a closer look at regional American wines from sea to shining sea. They represent a fascinating mix of ingenuity. An abiding desire to create the finest wines on Earth.S.S. Winemakers in the United States are hard to pigeonhole. There are both traditionalists. Innovators among its hardworking viticulturists. Two consistent qualities they share, though, are a fierce dedication to creating superior wines and a conviction that technology is an important confederate in achieving that goal. California - If you think of the Golden State when someone mentions American wines, it shouldn't be much of a surprise. California produces almost 90 percent of the wine made in the U.S.
We'll come back to this concept on the next page. A second essential feature of the Fabric PC's flexible design is that its individual components will be built into a pliable fabric-like backbone rather than a metal frame. While the components themselves will still be rigid, the device as a whole will have some flexibility if the components are spaced apart within the fabric -- somewhat similar to how rigid rhinestones can be sewn into a fancy dress. One final key to the Fabric PC's design is straightforward -- its individual components will be as small and lightweight as possible. Also, non-essential components will likely be left out. This minimalist approach to computer design has already been the trend for some of today's laptops that are designed to be small and lightweight. For example, lighter "flash" memory has been used in place of bulkier hard disk drives. With the ability to quickly download files wirelessly, the CD/DVD drive can be left out entirely.|An ultra-modern classroom at the University of Connecticut School of Business. See more corporation pictures. For better or for worse, standardized tests are the gatekeepers of higher education. Almost every college, university and graduate program includes a standardized test among its admissions requirements. The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is used by institutions worldwide to evaluate applicants to graduate business and management programs. For students in the United States, the GMAT is most closely associated with applying to master of business administration (MBA) programs at a business school. The test is part of the selection criteria of more than 4,500 programs at 1,900 institutions in 81 countries. The GMAT boom is being fueled by increased participation from non-U.S. Chinese, whose participation jumped by 35 percent in 2009. That was also the first year in which non-U.S. The GMAT -- much like the SAT, GRE, the LSAT and the MCAT -- is a long, intentionally difficult exam that requires much practice and preparation.
