Prior work for articulated 3D shape reconstruction often relies on specialized sensors (e.g., synchronized multi-camera systems), or pre-built 3D deformable models (e.g., SMAL or SMPL). Such methods are not able to scale to diverse sets of objects in the wild. We present BANMo, a method that requires neither a specialized sensor nor a pre-defined template shape. BANMo builds high-fidelity, articulated 3D “models” (including shape and animatable skinning weights) from many monocular casual videos in a differentiable rendering framework. While the use of many videos provides more coverage of camera views and object articulations, they introduce significant challenges in establishing correspondence across scenes with different backgrounds, illumination conditions, etc. Our key insight is to merge three schools of thought; (1) classic deformable shape models that make use of articulated bones and blend skinning, (2) volumetric neural radiance fields (NeRFs) that are amenable to gradient-based optimization, and (3) canonical embeddings that generate correspondences between pixels and an articulated model.
Acoustic levitation allows small objects, like droplets of liquid, to float. Unless you travel into the vacuum of space, sound is all around you every day. But most of the time, you probably don't think of it as a physical presence. You hear sounds; you don't touch them. The only exceptions may be loud nightclubs, cars with window-rattling speakers and ultrasound machines that pulverize kidney stones. But even then, you most likely don't think of what you feel as sound itself, but as the vibrations that sound creates in other objects. The idea that something so intangible can lift objects can seem unbelievable, but it's a real phenomenon. Acoustic levitation takes advantage of the properties of sound to cause solids, liquids and heavy gases to float. The process can take place in normal or reduced gravity. In other words, sound can levitate objects on Earth or in gas-filled enclosures in space.
We introduce a novel frame interpolation algorithm that utilizes both flow. Occlusion maps between four input frames to estimate an automatically adaptable pixel-wise non-linear motion model to interpolate the frames. We propose a parameter and runtime-efficient 3D CNN named “GridNet-3D” to aggregate multi-scale features efficiently. Through a set of comprehensive experiments on four publicly available datasets (Vimeo, DAVIS, HD and GoPro), we demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance. Rest of the paper is organized as follows: Section 2 discusses some significant prior works in Video Frame Interpolation, Section 3 describes our algorithm, Section 4 contains experiments along with some ablation studies and finally Section 5 summarizes limitations of our approach and discusses possible future directions. In this section, we briefly describe the methods that are relevant to this paper. However, these class of methods rely on estimating the optical flow based on 2D CNNs at the frame-level that might not capture motion features well. Our work belongs to this category with a key difference in that we use a 3D CNN to capture a large spatiotemporal stride to better estimate per-pixel non-linear motion.|COSMIC is made up of a constellation of six microsatellites, the first to use radio occultation.
