The amount paid out decreases after each rerun - so by the 13th rerun, the amount has decreased to 5 percent of the original fee the actor was paid for her appearance in an episode. This 5 percent will be paid every time an episode is run forever. Background actors or "extras" (random storm troopers on "The Mandalorian," for instance) do not usually receive residuals. With 236 episodes in reruns, that would add up to a handsome residual check of $2,360,000 per actor. Getting a big residual depends a lot on what the stars of the show negotiated during their time on the series.

One potential solution to the storage and disposal problem that could help prevent spills like the one in Tennessee is to use fly ash as a building material. When used in concrete, fly ash is generally believed to be fairly safe. Although it often does contain known carcinogens, the harmful effects are thought to be neutralized when fly ash is added to concrete mixes.

By 1768, less than 30 years later, excessive hunting led to the sea cow's extinction. But today's research suggests that these extinctions may be part of a bigger trend -- a human-caused mass extinction that could rival prehistoric events that destroyed most life on Earth.
