It's 2 a.m. at the dance club and the disc jockey starts spinning the latest hit song from Rihanna. Everybody packs the dance floor. Grooves to the infectious beat. When the song reaches the chorus, something unexpected happens. Rihanna's voice is replaced with Stevie Wonder singing "Superstition." It's the same beat and bass line of the Rihanna song, but with Stevie Wonder dropped seamlessly on top. As the song continues, the Rihanna backbeat is replaced with the deep thud-thud of house music. With something called music mixing software. Music mixing software allows musicians to slice and dice digital music and reassemble it in new, creative ways. The software can match tempos between two songs without distorting the pitch of either one. It can chop a track into dozens of loops. Shuffle them to achieve a totally new sound. It can add stunning effects that completely change the emotional tone of the music. Music mixing software is a powerful tool for DJs and music producers.
With that in mind, we're going to compare and contrast the two technologies across a variety of parameters, starting with the kind of energy they emit. X-rays or Millimeter Waves? A volunteer stands inside a backscatter scanner during a demo at the Transportation Security Administration's Systems Integration Facility at Ronald Reagan National Airport on Dec. 30, 2009. Backscatter technology is one of two types of imaging technology that the U.S. Both types of scanners give off energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation, which exists in nature as waves of energy made from both electric and magnetic fields. These waves travel through space and come in various sizes, or wavelengths. Millimeter wave scanners produce a special type of microwaves with wavelengths that fall in a range exactly between 0.001 meters (1 millimeter) and 0.01 meters (10 millimeters). In other words, the waves emitted by mmw scanners are much larger and therefore have less impact on small structures, such as human proteins and nucleic acids.|Russia, called official Russian Federation, is ninth most populous nation in world with 142 million populations. First, gravity is a force that causes objects to attract one another. The simplest way to understand gravity is through Isaac Newton's law of universal gravitation. This law states that every particle in the universe attracts every other particle. The more massive an object is, the more strongly it attracts other objects. The closer objects are, the more strongly they attract each other. An enormous object, like the Earth, easily attracts objects that are close to it, like apples hanging from trees. Scientists haven't decided exactly what causes this attraction, but they believe it exists everywhere in the universe. Second, air is a fluid that behaves essentially the same way liquids do. Like liquids, air is made of microscopic particles that move in relation to one another. Air also moves like water does -- in fact, some aerodynamic tests take place underwater instead of in the air. The particles in gasses, like the ones that make up air, are simply farther apart and move faster than the particles in liquids.
Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union; now, it’s a different country. He is concerned that NATO will move in. It might sound paranoid to us, but it’s a security issue for him. Our government recognizes that but, at the same time, we can’t recognize a country that feels that it can control the destiny of another country, even if it’s a neighbor. So the Ukrainians, the U.S. NATO countries can’t accept that the Russians have the sphere of influence in Ukraine, no matter what the Russians do. The Ukrainians and the Ukrainian government are genuinely concerned about Russia undermining Ukraine’s economy and Ukrainian politics. They don’t want to be controlled by another country, and they feel they need some protection. That’s the reason they’re interested in NATO. The U.S. and other NATO countries may not need to have Ukraine in NATO, but if Ukraine wants to be a NATO member, everyone believes it has that right to join in. However, I don’t think this membership will come about very soon, no matter what we say, because that really would be a tipping stone.
The latest TIGHAR-National Geographic expedition brought along four forensic dogs specially trained to detect human remains. After four days of searching, the team wasn't able to find any bones. But in one spot on the island, the dogs, all border collies, detected the lingering scent of chemicals left behind by human decomposition, according to TIGHAR executive director Richard Gillespie. A jar discovered on Nikumaroro Island in 2006, left, is pictured next to a 1930s container for Dr. C. H Berrys Freckle Ointment. Explorers think the pot of anti-freckle cream, found in five pieces and reassembled, belonged to long-lost female aviator Amelia Earhart and came from her makeup collection. According to a National Geographic article on the expedition, the researchers also filled five Ziploc bags with soil from the spot, which will be sent to a lab in Germany in the long-shot hope that the soil might hold DNA samples that could be linked to Earhart.
