An electronic cigarette doesn't rely on this process of combustion. Instead, it heats a nicotine liquid and converts the liquid to a vapor, or mist, that the user inhales. Depending on the e-cigarette, the user may simply inhale from the cartridge to begin the vaporization process, though some devices have a manual switch that activates the vaporizer inside. The charged battery is connected to the vaporization chamber, a hollow tube that contains electronic controls and an atomizer -- the component that creates the vapor. Before the user activates the device, he or she attaches a cartridge containing nicotine liquid to the vaporization chamber. The tip of the cartridge serves as the e-cigarette's mouthpiece. E-cigarette users inhale the way they would with a regular cigarette. This inhalation activates the atomizer to heat the liquid in the cartridge and convert the liquid to a vapor. Inhaling this vapor through the mouthpiece delivers nicotine to the lungs, and the user exhales vapor that looks much like a cloud of cigarette smoke.|Once you head off to college, it's time to replace your trusty porcine bank with something a bit more sophisticated. So you're going off to college, entering a strange new world. It's exciting, and perhaps a bit scary, but you should know that there's always somewhere you can go to to feel wanted. No, not your parents' house -- your old room is probably being redecorated right about now -- the bank. Any number of fine financial institutions will offer you everything from free checking to a free iPod to get you in the door. Why? Because they love you and want you to be happy. No, wait -- that's your parents. The banks have other motives for their inviting behavior. The bottom line is, they want your business, and there are a couple of reasons for this, one slightly cynical and one, well, more cynical. Once a bank gets you in the door with a starter account, it hopes you'll go on to more lucrative things like taking out student loans, auto loans and home loans, running up credit card debt, and possibly taking out a home-equity loan to pay off the credit card debt so that you're a never-ending source of business (and income) for the bank.
The LSA analysis by the Reinvestment Fund helps direct government assistance, through the government's Healthy Food Financing Initiative, to communities to help bring grocery stores and healthy food retailers to underserved communities. Some communities address food access through grassroots efforts such as mobile grocery stores, community gardens and farmers markets. And in the past eight to 10 years, drug stores such as Walgreens have made efforts to stock limited grocery items including milk, eggs and fruit, calling these efforts a "food oasis" to combat limited access in food deserts. Access to healthy food is key for good health and quality of life. People who live in areas with poor access to healthy food are 55 percent less likely to have a good-quality diet that includes culturally appropriate food, according to a 2009 study from National Research Council on the Public Health Effects of Food Deserts. On the other hand, in communities with good access to healthy food, there is a reduced incidence of diabetes. Food access also impacts other health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease and even some types of cancer. In Chicago, an urban farming program that started in 2017 with a few acres of land and a converted mobile library bus served its 10,000th customer in August 2018. The program, Fresh Moves Mobile Market, serves health and senior centers, schools and other locations on Chicago's South and West Sides weekly, focusing specifically on areas with no access to fresh foods.
It is composed of 300 water Cherenkov detectors (WCD). Each of them is a cylinder of 7.3 m in diameter and 4.5 m in height. POSTSUPERSCRIPT. They are equipped with 4 upward facing photomultiplier tubes (PMT), one 10” Hamamatsu R7081-HQE at the centre of the tank and three 8” R5912 halfway to the edges. 95%. Those two characteristics compensate the smaller instantaneous sensitivity compared to the imaging atmospheric Cherenkov technique, especially at the highest energies for which fluxes tend to be low. Around 10 TeV, the footprint on the ground produced by a gamma-ray shower is comparable to the size of the instrument. Therefore, most of the events triggering the instrument will fall outside the main array which makes the event reconstruction less accurate because of degeneracy between the core position and the energy of the shower. In order to improve the reconstruction of those events thus improving the instrument sensitivity, a sparse outrigger array of small tanks has been added around the main array.
The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory is a very high energy gamma-ray detector located in Mexico. In late 2018, the HAWC collaboration completed a major upgrade consisting of the addition of a sparse outrigger array of 345 small water Cherenkov detectors (WCDs) surrounding the 300 WCDs of the main array and extending the instrumented area by a factor of 4. It provides an improved reconstruction of the showers whose core and footprint are not well contained in the array and increases the effective area in the range of a few TeV to beyond 100 TeV. This improvement in sensitivity will help to have a better understanding of the Galactic sources that accelerate particles up to the knee of the cosmic ray spectrum. In this contribution, we will show the current status, the performance, and the first results from the HAWC outrigger array. The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) is a very-high-energy gamma-ray observatory located at 4100 m altitude on the volcano Sierra Negra in the state of Puebla in central Mexico.
