An image of a preproduction non-line-of-sight cannon in development by BAE Systems. In previous and current wars, the shells fired by U.S. Army rear artillery missed too many targets, caused too much collateral damage (like the deaths of civilians), and failed to explode properly. This tidbit becomes less surprising, though, when one learns that in the 21st century, the U.S. Army still used manned tanks based on designs created in the 1950s and '60s. There were periodic updates as new technology emerged, but this essentially amounted to adding new bells and whistles to an old component. It will represent the first complete ground-up rebuild of mobile artillery technology in decades. Line-of-sight weapons require fairly close proximity to the enemy, beyond-line-of-sight much less. The cannon being developed by BAE Systems for the U.S. Army uses a 155mm .38 caliber howitzer. Allows for a wide choice of ordinance. 38 caliber howitzer. Allows for a wide choice of ordinance. One group, termed smart submunitions, are the type of cluster bombs described in the run-in on the previous page.
What's more, it's completely free. So how do you pin stuff to your Pinterest boards? The "Pin It" button comes in several forms. The easiest way to pin to Pinterest is to install what Pinterest describes in its welcome e-mail as a "bookmarklet" (i.e. the "Pin It" button). You can also pin by clicking the "add" button in the top navigation and pasting in a URL. However, it's much easier to install the "Pin It" bookmarklet and then click it whenever you surf past something you'd like to pin. There is no "Download the Pin It Button" call-out on the main page, so I had to hunt around for a few seconds before I found the bookmarklet they were talking about. It's located in the drop-down menu under "about." You'll also find it in the "goodies" section on the left sidebar navigation. I was using Chrome, so Pinterest instructed me to show my bookmarks bar. I suffered a few seconds of confusion since I already had my bookmarks bar displayed. However, by comparing the image in the convenient instructional video with my on-screen browser, it quickly became apparent that all I had to do was drag the "Pin It" button into my bookmarks bar to get started. Once I had the Pin It button installed, I was ready to start pinning my favorite sites to Pinterest. Was it as easy as clicking the Pin It button? I'm one of those frustrating people who never read an instruction manual. So, once I had my "Pin It" button installed, I skipped the "getting started" section and immediately began surfing the Web looking for something to pin. And speaking of "pin," one of my favorite bands, Pinback, has a new record coming out on Oct. 16, 2012. Pinback: What a perfect first thing to pin! 1 in 5 Women Use Pinterest. So Where's the Money?
How much radiation do these machines produce? Is it enough to increase cancer rates in the general population? And can TSA agents see intimate details we'd rather they didn't? The European Union has addressed these questions decisively: It bans any body scanners that use X-ray technology. That ban complies with a law in several European countries that says people shouldn't be exposed to X-rays except for medical reasons. In the U.S., the TSA and the vendors that manufacture the scanners - such as Rapiscan for backscatter and L-3 Communications for millimeter wave -- continue to assure the public about the safety of the devices. And they've taken steps to protect passenger privacy by installing software that either creates generic outlines of people or blurs certain regions of the image. Still, many people remain skeptical that airport scanners, in any shape or form, are completely safe. And many more feel a bit lost trying to understand how the machines work and how they're different.|Explorer Tim Severin and his wife Dorothy beside a model of the kind of boat that a 6th century Irish monk could have used to sail to America. Christopher Columbus gets the lion’s share of the credit for discovering America in 1492, but the evidence weighs heavily against him being the first one to find the New World. If Columbus had actually discovered America, he'd have found an unpopulated terrain, and of course, he didn’t. Besides, some believe the Chinese beat Columbus by 80 years. While Columbus may have been the first European to reach Central America, it is Giovanni Caboto who is the first to have arrived in North America, landing in Labrador, off the east coast of Canada, in 1497. So now we know, then: It was Caboto who was the first European to land in North America, right? Wrong again. Definitive proof of Norse habitation of Newfoundland, near Labrador, can be found at L’Anse aux Meadows, a Viking settlement dating to around 1000 C.E.
Video denoising methods take into account a spatio-temporal neighborhood of each pixel under consideration improving the noise reduction capabilities. HDR methods, we will propose a joint denoising and HDR method removing noise and building a HDR image free of ghosting artifacts. The paper is organized as follows: Section 2 describes the existing literature on MEF methods. In Section 3 we describe the complete method. In Section 4, we discuss the implementation of the method and compare with state of the art algorithms. NL-means to video by growing adaptively the spatio-temporal neighborhood. The performance of many denoising methods is improved by introducing motion compensation. 3-D spatio-temporal volumes constructed by tracking blocks along trajectories defined by the motion vectors. Their algorithm tends to a fusion of the neighboring frames in the absence of occlusions and a dense temporal sampling. Since demosaicking is the main cause of noise correlation, it is suitable to remove the noise before this process, or simply combine them in a single procedure.|3-D eye puzzles like this one can be difficult -- often impossible -- for some viewers to solve. Can you see the 3-D element? No? You'll have to click to the next page to see the illusion. Image courtesy of Fred Hsu. Ever since James Cameron released his award-winning movie "Avatar" in 3-D, it seems everyone and everything is jumping on the 3-D wagon. Next it was more 3-D movies, then 3-D television in your home -- all with the help of not-so-stylish 3-D glasses. But remember back in the 1990s when 3-D could be achieved without the dorky glasses? Autostereograms, or eye puzzles, saw their hay day back in the '90s with the popularity of brands like Magic Eye. You probably remember them hanging in the back of an art or poster store where there would be a crowd of people ogling a rather psychedelic looking image. The scrutinizers would either exclaim with glee that they could see a 3-D object pop out at them from the chaos or with frustration that they just couldn't make sense of the crazy image.
This use of sound has its limitations -- for example, if you try taking a picture from inside a tour bus with the windows closed, the sound waves will bounce off of the window instead of the subject and so focus the lens incorrectly. This Polaroid system is a classic active system. It is called "active" because the camera emits something (in this case, sound waves) in order to detect the distance of the subject from the camera. Infrared systems use a variety of techniques to judge the distance. For example, this patent describes a system that reflects an infrared pulse of light off the subject and looks at the intensity of the reflected light to judge the distance. Infrared is active because the autofocus system is always sending out invisible infrared light energy in pulses when in focus mode. It is not hard to imagine a system in which the camera sends out pulses of infrared light just like the Polaroid camera sends out pulses of sound.|While there are a million different ways to create videos, whiteboard animation video stands out as the shining star among all of them! This is because whiteboard animation is the most effective in building brand awareness among all potential clientele. It has the ability to convert complex subject matter into something easy to understand and simple. Videos make way for the combination of words and pictures in a pleasing way so as to enable the clients to understand the basic concepts with clairvoyance! Engaging: These videos are engaging. Fun at the same time. They have a characteristic to keep the user enthralled. Thus, the clients tend to linger longer, and this results in much more congregation of traffic. CTA: If you look at any whiteboard animation video, you will see a Call to Action (CTA). Sometimes it is present discreetly, while at other times it is as broad as daylight.
