That's why satellite service providers compress video signals, especially when they're high-definition video. They use a compression system standardized by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). There are a few different MPEG encoding standards. You're probably familiar with MP3 files, which are audio files that use the MPEG-1 standard. Until recently, satellite systems compressed video using the MPEG-2 standard, which reduces video size by a factor of about 55:1. Today, DISH network and DIRECTV, the two major satellite service providers in the United States, use the MPEG-4 compression standard. This format is more efficient than MPEG-2 and is better suited for complex, fast-moving images like those in sporting events and action movies. As cable companies began to develop HD packages, satellite systems had to look for new ways to deliver HD signals to customers in order to stay ahead of the competition. Both DIRECTV and DISH Network have upgraded to the MPEG-4 format, which allows both companies to provide more HD channels by streaming them more efficiently.

Strangely, despite a crosswind that should be carrying the canisters away, you notice that each one is headed directly for a vehicle. You hear someone shout "cluster bomb!" in your native language, followed by a body-rattling, quick succession of explosions. Your vision blurs, you hear only a single high-frequency note.
Renal insufficiency was measured using the serum creatinine test -- patients with creatinine levels of 2.0 milligrams per deciliter or higher were considered to have renal insufficiency. About 70 percent of patients in both groups received chronic diuretic therapy. The study found that both renal insufficiency and diuretic use were associated with higher death rates and longer hospital stays. Patients with renal insufficiency who were taking diuretics had a mortality rate of 7.8 percent, while those who were not taking diuretics had a mortality rate of 5.5 percent. Similarly, patients with normal kidney function who were taking diuretics had a mortality rate of 3.3 percent while those who weren't taking diuretics had a mortality rate of 2.7 percent. Patients with the greatest renal insufficiency in the ADHERE registry who were receiving long-term diuretic treatment experienced the highest mortality rates.
