He'd just whip out his communicator and place a call. Fast-forward 30 years and wouldn't you know it, it seems like everyone carries a communicator. We just know them as cell phones. Actually, the communicators in "Star Trek" were more like the push-to-talk, person-to-person devices first made popular by Nextel in the mid to late '90s. The "Star Trek" communicator had a flip antenna that when opened, activated the device. The original flip cell phones are perhaps distant cousins. Whatever the case, the creators of "Star Trek" were on to something because you'd be hard-pressed to find many people without a cell phone these days. With the tap of a finger, communication between crewmembers became even easier. Vocera Communications has a similar product that can link people on the same network inside a designated area like an office or a building by using the included software over a wireless LAN. The B2000 communication badge weighs less than two ounces and can be worn on the lapel of a coat or shirt and allows clear two-way communication.|Transformer models have shown great success modeling long-range interactions. Nevertheless, they scale quadratically with input length and lack inductive biases. These limitations can be further exacerbated when dealing with the high dimensionality of video. Proper modeling of video, which can span from seconds to hours, requires handling long-range interactions. This makes Transformers a promising tool for solving video related tasks, but some adaptations are required. While there are previous works that study the advances of Transformers for vision tasks, there is none that focus on in-depth analysis of video-specific designs. In this survey we analyse and summarize the main contributions and trends for adapting Transformers to model video data. Specifically, we delve into how videos are embedded and tokenized, finding a very widspread use of large CNN backbones to reduce dimensionality and a predominance of patches and frames as tokens. Furthermore, we study how the Transformer layer has been tweaked to handle longer sequences, generally by reducing the number of tokens in single attention operation.

According to 2020 data published in the Journal of Law and Economics, around one in five American workers are bound by a noncompete agreement. In early July 2021, President Joe Biden signed an executive order calling on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to ban or limit the use of noncompete agreements in employee contracts. Evan Starr, an assistant professor of management and organization at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. According to Starr's research, nearly 40 percent of 11,505 U.S. 18 percent are currently bound by one. That includes one-third of workers earning $40,000 or less. Another study by the Economic Policy Institute found that 29 percent of employers paying less than $13 an hour required their workers to sign noncompete agreements. Of the folks in the top tier of their study (those earning $22.50 and above), 36.5 percent had signed noncompetes. The classic argument in favor of noncompete agreements is that they take some of the risk out of hiring and training new employees. Companies invest time and resources in training new workers, and part of that training includes sharing inside information, maybe even trade secrets, about how the companies do business. Another argument in favor of noncompete clauses is that workers aren't forced to sign them. They can be negotiated as part of the overall employment contract. If a worker feels like they're giving up too much by signing a noncompete clause, they can ask for a higher salary or walk away. In reality, through, very few people ever pause to consider the ramifications of signing a noncompete agreement and ever fewer are in a position to negotiate. How many of these workers have the wherewithal to fight a legal battle? Ninety percent of the time, these threatening letters tend to resolve the issue.
