Bonnie, a Brindle Great Dane, with Sparkle, a Chihuahua mix. The relationship between people and dogs goes back at least 15,000 years, making dogs potentially the first animal to be domesticated. In that time, dogs have played many roles and performed many jobs for their human companions. Dogs come in a startling variety of shapes and sizes, but from the giant and noble Great Dane to the tiny and tenacious Chihuahua, they are all one species with one basic history. In this article, we'll explore where dogs came from and why they look and act the way they do. We'll also learn what recent genetic work has to tell us about our dogs. Talk about how to find the right dog for you. Canids are part of a larger group called Carnivora, which also includes bears, cats and seals. Fossils show us that Canidae split off from the common ancestors of Carnivora about 40 million years ago. From about 15 million years ago, we can subdivide Canidae into three subgroups: fox-like animals, wolf-like animals and South American canids, such as the maned wolf and crab-eating fox.
To do this, we'll need to understand how current laptops are structured. Basically, the laptops with which we're all familiar consist of many individual components, each fixed within a metal frame. The entire structure opens. Closes like a book. Not only does a traditional laptop's metal frame form a rigid shell, but most of its internal components are bulky and rigid, too. The largest of these components is the screen, or display. There are several different types of modern computer displays, each built with different technologies, but most of today's displays are inflexible, bulky and surprisingly fragile. The hard disk drive, used to store memory, is another large and rigid component of a traditional laptop. The list continues and includes many other components you're probably familiar with, such as the CD/DVD drive and the battery. There are at least three main components to the Fabric PC design that will allow this to happen. First of all, the computer display will be constructed from a cutting-edge technology called e-paper, allowing the display screen to be paper-thin and bendable.|Prior work for articulated 3D shape reconstruction often relies on specialized sensors (e.g., synchronized multi-camera systems), or pre-built 3D deformable models (e.g., SMAL or SMPL). Such methods are not able to scale to diverse sets of objects in the wild. We present BANMo, a method that requires neither a specialized sensor nor a pre-defined template shape. BANMo builds high-fidelity, articulated 3D “models” (including shape and animatable skinning weights) from many monocular casual videos in a differentiable rendering framework. While the use of many videos provides more coverage of camera views and object articulations, they introduce significant challenges in establishing correspondence across scenes with different backgrounds, illumination conditions, etc. Our key insight is to merge three schools of thought; (1) classic deformable shape models that make use of articulated bones and blend skinning, (2) volumetric neural radiance fields (NeRFs) that are amenable to gradient-based optimization, and (3) canonical embeddings that generate correspondences between pixels and an articulated model.
The inaccessible nature of the deep Web may conjure images of hackers doing nefarious things, but that's not really accurate. What a tangled web we weave, indeed. Yet even as more and more people log on, they are actually finding less of the data that's stored online. That's because only a sliver of what we know as the World Wide Web is easily accessible. The so-called surface Web, which all of us use routinely, consists of data that search engines can find and then offer up in response to your queries. Well, a lot of it's buried in what's called the deep Web. The deep Web (also known as the undernet, invisible Web and hidden Web, among other monikers) consists of data that you won't locate with a simple Google search. No one really knows how big the deep Web really is, but it's hundreds (or perhaps even thousands) of times bigger that the surface Web. This data isn't necessarily hidden on purpose.
Similar concerns over leftover Russian military equipment were also raised in Belarus after the Zapad-2021 joint exercises in September. With Minsk now announcing more exercises along Belarus’ southern border with Ukraine in the “medium term”, the potential for a swift military offensive looks more threatening. There is also the question of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The west sees the pipeline, which - when completed and operational - would allow Russia to bypass Ukraine when supplying gas to Europe, as a potential target for sanctions. Meanwhile, in Europe, the current energy crisis is underlining the continent’s dependence on Russian gas, with Germany the largest consumer. As Gazprom - Russia’s state-owned gas company - anticipates that next year’s energy market will remain equally strained, implicit pressure on Germany from European consumers and businesses to give final approval to the pipeline is high. If approval isn’t granted, rising utility bills and subsequent public discontent seem likely.
As far as we know, Heron's device - a water-fed sphere, mounted on its axis above a heat source, that spun thanks to steam escaping from two bent tubes sticking out from its middle -never attained more than amusement status. A c. fourth-century Roman bath came complete with a hypocaust beneath the floor of its hot room to keep Roman toes toasty warm. Heron was not alone taking delight in vaporous water. A Greek living in Egypt, he was part of the first-century Roman Empire, and the Romans knew their way around steam. No mere watery tubs, various bath complexes featured outdoor sports areas, food stands, servants, dressing rooms, cold rooms, warm rooms and, of course, a steamy Caldarium. Today, our homes use indirect heat, in which heat energy from a central source flows through the house via air, steam or water. After Rome's collapse, Europe mostly returned to its pits and hearths for heat.|The Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation has medically suspended Adam Piccolotti for six months after the Bellator fighter posted an Instagram video of himself vomiting during his weight cut last week, director Mike Mazzulli said Wednesday. Piccolotti wrote on social media that he had thrown up "20-plus times" during the weight cut ahead of Bellator 274, which took place Saturday at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. The Mohegan Tribe also suspended Piccolotti's three cornermen -- Mauricio Calvo, Raul Castillo and Matthew Aragoni -- for their roles in the situation. The video showed two of Piccolotti's trainers helping him up off the floor to take him into a portable sauna so he could cut more weight. Piccolotti has since deleted the video. Though the suspension was put into place by the Mohegan Tribe, Mazzulli said it will be honored by the other commissions across the U.S. Canada in the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports. Mazzulli, the ABC president, said Piccolotti must be cleared by a nephrologist and will need a new EKG and physical examination to compete again. He was also fined $2,500. Piccolotti (13-4) ended up winning Saturday night, defeating Georgi Karakhanyan via unanimous decision in a lightweight bout. The 33-year-old California resident has won four of his past six fights.
